Writing Style

House Style

House style is a short set of shared editorial choices that helps a group, newsletter, website, or publication sound consistent without flattening individual voice.

What to Watch

  • Write down recurring choices: group name, meeting time, place names, titles, dates, and capitalization.
  • Choose a preferred spelling when more than one is acceptable.
  • Use one date, phone-number, heading, and link format throughout.
  • Update the sheet when a real recurring question appears.

Practice

Make a one-page house style sheet for the Writer’s Group: preferred group name, meeting format, local place names, dates, headings, and how links should appear.

Use It Today

  1. Start with frequent decisions, not every grammar rule.
  2. Use examples, not vague instructions.
  3. Keep it short enough to use.
  4. Review it after publishing a few pieces.

On the Page

A useful entry says “Write Writer’s Group led by Kristy Kelly on first reference; Writer’s Group after that.”
